Catalina Paintings Members Open House Event - Virtual

Catalina Island Museum's first ever virtual open house event showcasing the special exhibition "Catalina Paintings: Night & Day." During this online Zoom event our Director of Exhibitions Johnny Sampson walks you through the gallery talking about the theme of the exhibition and the individual paintings. Executive Director Julie Perlin Lee was our emcee as we heard from special friends of the museum related to the subjects of certain paintings including Harbormaster JJ Poindexter, Sue Rikalo owner of the DC-3 Restaurant at the Airport in the Sky, plein air collector and museum Board of Trustee Roy Rose, plein air artist John Cosby and more. We also shared rare video footage of William Wrigley Jr. on the island visiting the Black Jack Mine with D.M. Renton in 1926. In addition, Primrose River serenaded the attendees with a song inspired by one of the paintings and we shared the artwork of local children who recreated the painted scenes included in the exhibition. 

The event took place entirely on Zoom and we are sharing it with you, our members, who helped us make history by being a part of it!
